Deer Valley Jordanelle Lake Overlook Wall Art Print – The Story Behind The Photo

Where Is The Deer Valley Jordanelle Lake Overlook And How Do You Get There?

Deer Valley is one of the premier ski resorts in Utah and the western United States.  It is located in the Wasatch Mountain Range not too far from Salt Lake City.  It is one of the more upscale ski resorts in the United States.  Hotels and real estate in the area are incredibly luxurious and generally have price tags to match.  You can drop $1,000 or more per night staying at the Stein Eriksen Lodge and substantially less if you stay a bit farther from the Deer Valley Ski Slopes. The skiing and the views at Deer Valley can be spectacular and the Jordanelle Lake Overlook is one such scenic viewpoint.

In order to take in this view, you’ll need to buy a Deer Valley ski lift ticket or get the Ikon Pass that will give you access to Deer Valley and 46 other ski resort around the world (as of Feb 2022).  When you get out on the ski slopes you’ll need to head over to Bald Mountain with your camera, frame up the scene and take a shot or shots.  Views from here make awesome wall art prints for any Deer Valley skier!  You can see where Bald Mountain is located at Deer Valley on the Deer Valley Trail Map.

What Makes The Deer Valley Jordanelle Lake Overlook A Spectacular Photo Opportunity?

The Deer Valley Jordanelle Overlook offers sweeping views out over the mountains around Deer Valley.  The scene speaks for itself.  The mountains seem endless, the Jordanelle Reservoir is located right smack in the middle of the mountains.  The mountains are covered with dense forests.  In the winter, fresh show blankets the entire landscape and creates an incredible mountain scene.

When Should You Go Deer Valley For Amazing Jordanelle Lake Overlook Photos?

The views from Deer Valley overlooking the Jordanelle Lake/Reservoir are probably spectacular any time of year.  As a skier, my favorite time to take in the views is during ski season.  For the best winter views, pick a day soon after a snowstorm.  Pick a day that is partly cloudy with light fluffy clouds in the skies and head up to Bald Mountain with your camera.

What Is The Best Gear For Photographing The Deer Valley Jordanelle Lake Overlook?

Once you get to Deer Valley, get your lift ticket and make it up to Bald Mountain, most any camera will do that you are comfortable skiing with.  A cel phone camera will capture this landscape as will any DSLR or mirrorless camera.  If you are using a camera with interchangeable lenses you’ll probably want something between 18mm and up to 100mm or so.  If you want to zoom in and photograph specific areas of this landscape you’ll want more zoom power.  If you are using DSLR equipment just remember that you’ll have to ski with those heavy lenses.  On partly cloudy days with plenty of light there will be no need for a tripod.  Just go up and shoot!

What Is The Story Behind This Deer Valley Wall Art Photo Print?

In 2019 when the Ikon ski pass replaced the Maxx Pass, I bought the Ikon Pass and spent much of the winter roaming around in the Western United States and Canada at resorts included on the Ikon Pass.  After skiing other resorts in Utah including Snowbird and Alta, I headed over to Deer valley for the first time ever.  Like most people, staying anywhere like the Stein Eriksen lodge was not remotely feasible because of the exorbitant cost.  Fortunately the Park City Hotel popped up a number of years ago.  If you want clean, comfortable shared or private room lodging, the Park City Hostel is an excellent budget choice.  I spent 5 days skiing Deer Valley with camera in hand at Deer Valley and snapped tons of photos all over the resort including the one featured here.
