Pittsburgh Skyline Wall Art Photo Print – The Story Behind The Photo

Where Is This Pittsburgh Skyline Wall Art Print And Where Was It Taken?

When you take a trip to the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania sometimes known as “The City of Champions”, there are endless incredible sights.  Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania has three rivers that come together at the point.  With all that water, you’ll find more than 400 bridges that cross the rivers, other waterways or ravines.  The wall art photo opportunities  in the Steel City are endless.  This particular Pittsburgh wall art quality print was taken up on Mount Washington.  There are two inclines (steep rail cars) in Pittsburgh.  This photo was taken from the top of the Duquesne Incline up on Mount Washington.  The incline still operates daily and costs $2.50 to ride up or down.  If you want to go for a ride, you can park at the top or the bottom of the incline and hop on.  This photo was taken from the top of the incline overlooking the three rivers and the city at sunrise.

What Should You Know If You Want To Photograph The Pittsburgh Skyline?

While the Pittsburgh skyline looks incredible most anytime it is not completely fogged in, the best times to photograph the Pittsburgh skyline are sunrise and sunset.  My preference is sunrise.  Anywhere from about 30 minutes before sunrise to 20 minutes after sunrise can be pretty magical.  If you get there a bit before sunrise, all the lights in the city will still be on and you’ll get a cool effect from the city lights.  If you are really lucky you may get a bit of color in the skies but most of the time the city lights are out by the time any color appears in the skies.  Likewise, sunset and into the night can make for awesome wall art quality photos as well.

If you head up to Mount Washington and start at the top of the Duquesne Incline, you’ll likely be able to find some free residential parking.  Alternatively there are some metered spots near the incline.  As noted above there are two inclines in Pittsburgh.  The Duquesne Incline where this photo was taken and the Monongahela Incline about a 20 minute walk away.  Anywhere between the two can be a great spot to photograph the Pittsburgh skyline.  There are a number of overlook platforms between the two.  If you have the time to go up to Mount Washington and want to get some great photos, plan to spend a few hours wandering around up there.  Walk between the two inclines and explore a bunch of different views.

What Did It Take To Get This Pittsburgh Skyline Wall Art Quality Print?

This particular photo was taken at sunrise in the winter.  There are plenty of hotels in downtown Pittsburgh and the surrounding area that will provide easy driving access to Mount Washington.  Since sunrise is often before rush our in Pittsburgh, it is reasonable to stay a bit farther outside the city to find a less expensive hotel room that doesn’t levy an additional charge for parking.  When I go to Pittsburgh, I usually stay out in the Monroeville area of the town and make a beeline into the city before sunrise.  That usually takes about forty-five minutes to drive in, park and take a short hike from the parking spot over to the Duquesne Incline.

If the weather forecast looks good for sunrise, the platform at the top of the Duquesne Incline may get crowded with photographers.  Usually there aren’t more than a handful of people there, at least when I’ve gone for sunrise.  Like anywhere else, the weather can vary widely in downtown Pittsburgh at sunrise.  On this trip to Pittsburgh, I went down to Mount Washington 5 times and got a sunrise like this only the first day.  If you want to catch fiery skies over Pittsburgh at sunrise you may need to go down anywhere up to 10 or more times to get skies like this.

What Formats Is Pittsburgh Skyline Sunrise Wall Art Print Available?

This Pittsburgh sunrise print is available in sizes up to 72×46 inches.  It would make a phenomenal bright, shiny metal print in an environment with subdued or diffused lighting.  If it will be hung in a brighter room, a matte paper or canvas print may be a better choice.  Wood and acrylic prints are also available.

If you’d rather show your love for Pittsburgh with something else, this image makes a great tote bag for grocery shopping.  It makes a nice jigsaw puzzle, a phenomenal shower curtail and a pretty cool cel phone cover as well!
